"Gram Vikasatun Rashtra Vikas" — A life dedicated to the people of rural Maharashtra
BJP Jila Adhyaksha, Amravati Gramin | BJP Pradesh Vice President, Maharashtra | Founder & Secretary, Maharashtra Gram Darpan Sanstha
Born in the heartland of Maharashtra's Vidarbha region, Raviraj Himmatrao Deshmukh has devoted over three decades to public service, social empowerment, and grassroots development. Known affectionately as "Ravi Dada" by the people he serves, he began his political journey as a BJP activist in 1994 and rose through the ranks through sheer dedication, grassroots hard work, and an unwavering commitment to the rural communities of Maharashtra.
"If every village is strong, every district is strong. If every district is strong, the nation is strong. True development must begin from the ground up — from our villages, our fields, and our homes."
In 1998, he founded Maharashtra Gram Darpan Sanstha (MGD) — a Mirror held up to rural India — which has since touched 21.5 lakh lives across hundreds of villages in Amravati, Gondia, Hingoli and beyond. His work spans women's empowerment, healthcare access, water and sanitation, agricultural support, environmental conservation, and youth development.
As the Founder & Secretary of MGD, Raviraj Deshmukh has transformed grassroots leadership into a model of sustainable community development — partnering with IFAD, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 to bring national-level change to individual villages.
Academically, Raviraj Deshmukh holds a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Prof. Ram Meghe Institute of Technology & Research, Badnera. In recognition of his outstanding and lifelong contribution to rural development, he was also conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Science (Hon. D.Sc.).
From Tivsa to the state capital — a journey measured in lives transformed
Raviraj Deshmukh's political philosophy is rooted in a simple belief: that true leadership is about giving more than you take. His work is not driven by political ambition alone but by a deep-seated conviction that the development of the nation must begin from its villages.
He often says that the problems of rural India — farmer distress, lack of healthcare, women's disempowerment, poor sanitation — are not just governance failures but moral failures. And he takes it as his personal responsibility to address them.
"Empowerment is not something you give to communities. It is something you build with them — one conversation, one capacity, one connection at a time."
Every policy, every initiative must answer: does this make the life of a farmer in Tivsa better today?
Not handouts but capacities. Not dependency but self-reliance. Not charity but dignity and opportunity.
A camp changes lives for one day. A self-help group, a cooperative, a system — that changes them forever.
He doesn't govern from offices. He is in the field, in the village, at the doorstep — where the work actually happens.
Environmental stewardship is not separate from development. Healthy land is the foundation of healthy communities.
